Hopp-la Foundation

Hopp-la Foundation

The Hopp-la Foundation advocates for public spaces that are dedicated to physical activity and places to meet. It also promotes intergenerational activities. Playful physical activity promotes the health and well-being of those of all ages and thus enhances quality of life. Improved physical performance helps to maintain mobility and independence in old age. Encounters between generations help to reduce fears and uncertainties on both sides, to promote understanding of other generations and to enable intergenerational learning

The Hopp-la Foundation, in cooperation with other partners, operates an intergenerational physical activity and health promotion pilot program in the Schützenmattpark in Basel. The program is evaluated continuously. Thanks to long-term support of the project, it should be possible to create health-promoting environments for the population and to enable sustainable promotion of physical activity and health in public spaces.

The lessons learned from the pilot project should motivate further advocacy for intergenerational work in health-promoting environments, so that the foundation’s philosophy and the inter-generational park can be established throughout Switzerland.
