du-bist-du has developed into a programme that provides a range of advice and information across a variety of specialist areas on the topics of homosexuality, bisexuality and trans* issues for young people from German-speaking Switzerland and for professionals who work with young people. All the specialist areas in which information is provided, particularly counselling for young people and youth work, are structured in line with the peer method.
An innovative approach was taken to the development of the du-bist-du program, combining research-based findings with the knowledge and experience of social work professionals, whilst also involving gay, bisexual and trans* young people in the collaborative process. The young volunteers had the opportunity to develop their abilities and resources, and also learned new skills that may be useful in their careers as well as their private lives.
