Procap - a network for people with handicap
Procap is the largest member association of and for people with disabilities in Switzerland. Procap was founded as the Swiss Association of Invalids in 1930 and has now nearly 20’000 members in about 45 regional sections. In Switzerland, around 1.4 million people live with disabilities. Despite their handicaps they lead as independent lives as possible and on equal terms - this is the vision that Procap is fighting for on all political levels. It offers its members first-class counseling on legal and social insurance questions. It is also competent for questions on unobstructed building and housing, customized holidays for people with disabilities and equal access to sport, leisure and culture. With the project „Procap bewegt“ ("Procap Moves") the organization is now for the first time active in the field of health promotion. Approximately 1,700 voluntary helpers are involved in the regional Procap sections and sports groups and in centralized services. Many of them live with a disability themselves. They assist members in everyday life and take on different care and support tasks.
Procap is a voluntary institution and depends on financial help. 100’000 individual donors and many companies as well as public and private institutions provide regular support and demonstrate their solidarity for people with disabilities.
